CDT graduate presents novel health tech at House of Lords

Last month, Ruben Ruiz-Mateos Serrano, a recent graduate of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Connected Electronic and Photonic Systems (CEPS CDT) at the University of Cambridge, was invited to speak at the UK House of Lords.

The event spotlighted Ruben's pioneering work as Founder and CEO of Polytecks, a Cambridge spin-out company focused on revolutionising cardiac diagnostics.

Polytecks is developing cutting-edge technology for faster, earlier, and more accurate detection of heart defects using cutaneous electrophysiology. Ruben’s presentation at the UK House of Lords was part of a joint event hosted by the Global Education Lab and the King’s College Enterprise Lab, bringing together thought leaders in science, business, and policy.

The day began with opening remarks from Lord Richard Harrington, who emphasised the vital role of entrepreneurship and political collaboration in driving global impact. Ruben joined a panel of innovators to share Polytecks’ mission and the transformative potential of academic research in healthcare.

About Ruben Ruiz-Mateos Serrano

Ruben recently completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, where his research focused on developing a wearable cardiac activity mapping system. His work was supervised by Professor George Malliaras and supported by the EPSRC training programme grant EP/S022139/1.
