CEPS CDT student recognised for scientific contributions of outstanding quality to optics and photonics
Congratulations to PhD student Samuel Prescott on being awarded a €500 Student Travel Grant from the Optica Foundation. The award recognises PhD students whose scientific contributions to optics and photonics are of outstanding quality and who are presenting at the CLEO®/Europe-EQEC conference in Munich.
Samuel Prescott is a PhD student at UCL on the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Connected Electronic and Photonic Systems (CEPS CDT) programme. His PhD research is in the field of Semiconductor quantum dot emission with Mie metasurfaces, supervised by Professor Oleg Mitrofanov and funded by EPSRC training programme grant EP/S022139/1.
Samuel received his award at a ceremony during the conference, which took place from Monday, 23 June to Friday, 27 June 2025 in Munich, Germany.
He said, “I really enjoyed attending CLEO Europe this year, where I presented my work on the use of nanoscale metasurfaces to enhance the emission from quantum light sources. I am very grateful to have received recognition for this work from Optica by being awarded their travel grant.”
