David Gerard awarded the Associate Fellowship of Higher Education Association
Congratulations to CEPS CDT student, David Gerard, who was recently awarded the Associate Fellowship of Higher Education Association (AFHEA) in recognition of his commitment to professionalism in learning and teaching in higher education.
The Associate Fellowship is from the nonprofit AdvanceHE, delivered at UCL by Arena, awarded to recognise an individual’s effectiveness in teaching, professional values, core knowledge and inclusive practice.
David demonstrated his personal and institutional commitment to the Professional Standards Framework through his work as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant (PGTA) at UCL, working alongside academics to support teaching and learning in undergraduate modules, and by organising and delivering extra-curricular workshops for undergraduate students.
David said, “Reproducibility and transparency are key to ensure quality in research and engineering. By teaching students good practices of Software Engineering, we set them on a path that enables effective collaborations with their peers, essential for their professional development. Furthermore, teaching about these tools has deepened my own expertise, which I improve the quality of my doctoral research. Overall, the CEPS CDT has provided me with many such opportunities to explore different aspects of academia, which has been very rewarding!”
We congratulate David on his Associate Fellowship and the great work he is doing to support the teaching and learning of other students and academics.
David Gerard is a PhD student at UCL on the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Connected Electronic and Photonic Systems (CEPS CDT) programme. His PhD research is on Photonic Integrated Circuits for Neuromorphic Computing and AI Acceleration, supervised by Dr Alfonso Ruocco, funded by EPSRC programme grant EP/S022139/1.
